Chest Expander Cables
That's right, I'm talking about the Cable Set. Specifically the Lifeline Chest Expander set. We've all seen the old spring type expanders lying around, left over from dad's workout days in the '50's. But what you probably don't know is that the origins of this training is actually thousands of years old. There is some debate, but I believe it stems from the training of archers in ancient military regimes from all over the world.
Archery at that time was dependant on physical strength as was all battle. Because human beings weren't stupid then even if we for some reason think they were, they noticed that over time as a man began to train with bows, he became stronger, and stronger built more muscle and could use heavier and more powerful bows. Stronger bows meant greater success on the battle field as well as general hunting purposes. It wasn't too long before multiple cultures noticed the training and bodybuilding effect of training for archery.
Why do you think some of the ancient statues depict an extremely muscular man with powerful development through the forearms, arms, shoulders and back?
Drawing a bow of great strength even became an achievement of mythical proportion. The ancients weren't inept, when they saw something that worked they picked it up. Somewhere along the line, who knows where, somebody got the brilliant idea to put handles on a tough stretchable material and use that for exercise. That's probably an oversimplification, although I do believe the major idea was the bow, other training such as isometrics, bending limbs, pulling against a partner, pulling ropes, etc., all came together to form the modern expander. Fast forward to 50 to 100 years ago in the semi-modern expression of the expander which is basically what you used to see hanging around the stretchable steel springs. Even though they got a bad rap as a gimmick, they were useful but they had drawbacks. Namely that they pinched the crap out of you if you let the spring touch your skin while you were pulling it.
I mean physiques that were muscular to the degree that some of the men who were well known for using them were actually recruited to model for stone sculptors. Such is the degree of rugged development that cables can produce. And don't think they 're just for building a good looking body. Many of these strongmen were also champion weightlifters and grapplers and actually had specially built sets of these expanders so strong that they carried them around as a challenge feat. Just like the challenge dumbbells and barbells of the Vaudeville Era. Now skip ahead to the present. Manufacturing and rubber technology becomes extremely versatile and somebody gets the brilliant idea of remaking the chest expander using rubber cable. So what did that do? It brought back one of the most practical and versatile training tools and eliminated a lot of its weak links.
I mean that development that the old time warriors and athletes had; Plus, it doesn't pinch you anymore and the expander has become very affordable. It got easier to adjust the cables for different levels of resistance. The cables became very durable. And they put together cables of such variable strength that everyone from children to the elderly to the injured, to those looking for high rep conditioning workouts or medium rep bodybuilding workouts, or absolutely world class power can use them. Don't think these are aerobic class, mainstream, junk rubber bands. These are tools for serious strength and conditioning. Not to toot my own horn or saying this to brag, but I'm pretty freakin' strong and they have cables strong enough that I can't fully stretch them. That's sayin' something. So what does all this mean to you?
It means you get to use one of the most versatile and powerful strength and endurance building tools around - AND - That we've laid all the exercises out on one convenient video for you. Here's just a sample of some of the exercises:
We don't waste any time, we don't give you any fluff, we just go right from exercise to exercise. Exercises for every muscle you can think of and some you probably can't. Exercises for all of your major upper body muscle groups; biceps, triceps, shoulders, chest, forearms, fingers, back, abdominals, and even leg exercises. Exercises for intrinsic muscles to build stability, joint integrity, coordination, strength and speed. Here's a few more:
In fact that's one of the great things and true advantages, (and they are numerous), of training with the cables. You see you can hit muscles and angles that you just about can't hit in any other way. Jack LaLane, a true fitness pioneer, said that there are over 600 muscles in the body and we should be doing something to hit all of them. Well now you can and you can do it in a quick convenient way that takes the idiocy away from modern multi-angular training and puts some intelligence into it. Well cable training, especially the way we put it out on this video allows you to do just that. Every muscle from neck to toes, actually including the toes, can be worked with this cable set. And this video shows you how. Here are some more things covered on the video:
You know I'm not one to tell you that there is a miracle exercise. There isn't. There's just smart training and belief and effort. But cables are so absolutely versatile in their application that they really will help you out so long as you're smart about applying them. I didn't just choose cables on a whim. A fact that you can see if you read the "19 Reasons I Train With Cables," article on our site. They make my joints feel better and they can do the same for you. They made my strength go up. Same for you. They made my muscles bigger, harder and more defined and I already had a great deal of muscle to begin with. Plus they make you breath and make your blood circulate like crazy! Alone or in combination with other things they'll shoot your endurance up higher than ever before. World-class people train with them and you can too. This video will give you the tools, the form, the ideas and the exercises to get all of those benefits out of a simple cable set. Sometimes, simple ideas are the best.
